BVIP measures the contribution of potential IT projects to the overall business performance of the enterprise. One of the most frequently cited challenges for CIOs, is to demonstrate IT’s value contribution to the business. Executives want to maximise the business value of their investments in IT initiatives. But they have more opportunities than they can fund. Therefore they must prioritise by understanding the business' goals and balancing multiple evaluation criteria. Financial measures should not be the only criterion otherwise the portfolio will be unbalanced with only cost-reduction initiatives. The goal is a project portfolio that achieves the highest business value across the enterprise. BVIP is the tool to define such a high value portfolio.
